Dr Kobie du Plessis

Senior Pastor


Dr. Kobie du Plessis was ordained by the Dutch Reformed Church of South Africa in 1983, and has served the congregation of Dalpark Dutch Reformed Church in Gauteng, South Africa since 1985. He began his ministry at Dalpark as a Youth Pastor and was subsequently called as Senior Pastor upon his successor’s retirement from the ministry. During DR. du Plessis’s tenure at Dalpark, the congregation has grown from 600 to 1,200 members including 350 children. The community in which they minister is a small city of 35,000 adjacent to the greater metropolitan area of Johannesburg.While engaged in full-time ministry, Kobie has pursued further education, earning his MTh degree in 1996 and his Dth degree in 1999. His doctorate is in the area of small-group ministries. In addition to formal studies, Dr. du Plessis has also taken courses on preaching from the Stephen Olford Centre; on cell group ministry from Willow Creek; on Evangelism from EE III. He has also been involved in the international missions through World Thrust SA.Dr. du Plessis ranked among his highest priorities in life and ministry: preaching and teaching (“I seek to be relevant and seeker friendly in my approach to preaching and teaching”); small group ministry (“a pastoral process where members grow towards adulthood through fervent experience of community within a small group”); Christian education (“equipping people for living meaningful lives); outreach – world missions (“my involvement has gone beyond cultural and national borders… including Winning Strategies in Toronto in 1992”); and youth (“a church without young people has a bleak future. Young people without a church lose a wonderful opportunity for personal growth.”).Dr. du Plessis is married to Marti who he met in High School. Marti is the daughter of a pastor and is actively involved in all aspects of the church’s life with a special love for the worship team. They have one son, Albert. One of her many duties include the editing of the weekly church bulletin. All the bulletin announcements should be sent to her attention before Thursday morning.
